This new exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art tries to answer a complex but interesting question, what is our relationship to clothing? All aspects are revisited from function to social, from why they were created or coming from to what they might represent before and now. This journey takes us thought 111 pieces and installations presenting some of the most obvious staples (the white t-shirt, the jeans, the suit, the black dress, the handbag,…) to traditional pieces (the caftan, the sari, West African dresses,…). In times where every single piece of clothing seems to have been made for Instagram (or Instragramable), this examination, part technical, part historical, offers a necessary reminder of what we are trying to say everyday with our looks.
