Lacoste just turned 80. Originally created as a sportswear brand, the French label has grown over the years as relevant ready-to-wear, especially under the creative direction of Felipe Oliveira Baptista . What else can you bring after modernizing an entire industry, reintroducing elegance in the tennis courts, and now facing competition like Tommy Hilfiger and Uniqlo? The response is simple: stick to your DNA and revisit yourself.
This is all the FW13 collection was about. First, the origins using the cotton piqué. Beautiful series of sweaters, all oversized, color blocking or fabric contrasts (love the mix with leather for a biker touch). Then you explore new territories. After gorgeous exotic patterns last season, Baptista went to the Antarctic and created a delicate colour palette from sea green to dark green and few graphic reproductions inspired by glaciers, and printed them like unfolded origami. It was again visually stunning, original and true to what Lacoste embodies, creativity and simplicity.
