Invented by the French, celebrated by the American but redefined by the Japanese, the chore jacket (aka utilitarian jacket, aka workwear jacket, aka counter jacket, aka coverall jacket), is one of those staples that get constantly revisited every single season. No matter the current trends or hype going on, we see them everywhere from Brooklynites to chic Londoners or elegant Tokyoites. So with spring approaching, it felt right about time to hand-picked a few styles either representing the essence of the chore jacket or its future. Carhartt, who always produced them even when they were not that cool, does a great job reinventing them (lined or unlined, large color palette, corduroy collar, 4 front pockets). I also love this version from denim brand FDMTL and its playful patchworks. Also included, Bleu de Paname who somehow reinvented the classic French workwear jacket that most of us French, myself included, had forgotten how beautiful it can be when cleaned up and made with the right fabrics.
