All I had in mind when discovering this collection last June was Peter Saville and Josef Muller-Brockmann. This 15th Fred Perry x Raf Simons collection is articulated around some of my favorite graphic design’s themes: abstraction, color blocking, color accents, helvetica and the grid. It’s neat, sharp and offers what Raf hasn’t done this in while, a conceptual reinterpretation of the polo shirt and a homage to the European spirit.
This season sees for the very first time denim detailings and a workwear inspired denim jacket. While these pieces might have just looked nine months ago as cool elements, with now Raf Simon Calvin Klein’s creative director, I can’t help but wonder if it was a sign, him telling us “Look, great things to come very soon!”. It definitely gives to this collaboration a special place, some kind of laboratory and keeps us waiting for more.
